Smoking Policy

When does Philips Arena become a smoke free campus?

February 4, 2017. From this date forward, smoking will not be allowed anywhere on the Philips Arena property, including external sidewalks.

Why was made this decision?

As we look forward to the future of a re-imagined arena, a smoke free campus is a great initial step in ensuring a safer and healthier environment is a priority for all at work and play in our facility.

What is considered smoke-free?

Smoke-free means that smoking and tobacco-related products such as cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco and pipes are not allowed in the building. The use of electronic cigarettes and vaporizers are also not allowed on the Philips Arena campus.

Will there be designated smoking areas allowed at Philips Arena?

No. There will be no designated smoking areas on the Philips Arena footprint. The current smoking pass-outs at the Georgia’s Own Credit Union and Portal 1 entrances will no longer be available for smoking starting on February 4, 2017

Will I be able to leave the building to smoke and then be re-admitted to the event?

Beginning February 4, 2017 once you leave the building during any event at Philips Arena, you will not be permitted back into the building.  Smoking must be done BEFORE or AFTER your event and outside of the Philips Arena footprint which extends from inside of the large “ATLANTA” sign on Centennial Park Drive on the south, Andrew Young International Blvd. on the north, Philips Drive to the west, and CNN Center to the east.

How will these new regulations be enforced?

You may be asked by Philips Arena staff, security or city police to refrain from smoking on Philips Arena property at any time. Those attendees violating the building’s smoke-free policy are subject to removal from the event without further reimbursement.

Guests are welcome to bring their children to the arena in strollers, but all strollers will need to be checked in upon entry.
